Yerevan has been included among the candidate cities to host the 104th Conference of the World Association of Detectives (W.A.D.) in 2029.
The bid and the competitors
At the 101st Conference of the World Association of Detectives in Cannes, Yerevan was officially presented as a candidate to host the 2029 world forum. A key role in promoting Armenia’s bid was played by Hayk Gabrielyan, President of the Association of Private Detectives of Armenia and W.A.D. Ambassador.
Alongside Yerevan, Warsaw, Budapest, Riga, Glasgow and Innsbruck are also competing to become the host city.
Five years: from the first organisation to international recognition
This achievement is especially significant given the relatively short history of the private detective industry in Armenia. In 2021, when the country’s first private detective organisation was being founded, it was hard to imagine that just five years later Armenia would be able to compete for the right to host the conference with countries that have long histories and a well-established detective culture.
This journey clearly shows how quickly the industry can develop in Armenia thanks to effective cooperation with international professional bodies and consistent work.
What hosting the W.A.D. conference could mean for Yerevan
If Yerevan is chosen, in 2029 the Armenian capital will bring together private detectives and leading investigation and security professionals from around the world.
Hosting such a large-scale event would open up wide opportunities:
to present Armenia with dignity to the international professional community,
to expand industry cooperation and build new professional and business ties,
to showcase Yerevan as a capable and attractive city for high-level international professional events.
The final decision — in 2027
The race for Yerevan’s bid continues. Before the final selection, the candidate cities must fully present their capabilities and advantages. The final answer as to whether Yerevan will become the world capital of detectives in 2029 will be known in autumn 2027, at the W.A.D. conference to be held in Osaka, Japan.
